M/N MARE AUSTRALIS

Sailing from Punta Arenas, Saturday / Arriving at Ushuaia, Wednesday.

M/N VIA AUSTRALIS

Sailing from Punta Arenas, Tuesday / Arriving at Ushuaia, Saturday.

This cruise takes the route of the Great Sailors through the Patagonia, visiting Cabo de Hornos (Cape Horn), often called ‘the Tempest Cape’ by the local sailors, passing between Isla Hoste and Isla Navarino through Canal de Murray, reminding us the incredible explorations and discoveries of interoceanic routes made by Fernando de Magallanes, Francis Drake and Fitz Roy.

A unique sight, among glaciers and unexplored mountains at the southmost region of the planet, and crossing from Punta Arenas to Ushuaia through the mythical Canal de Beagle.

A cruise raising the expedition and discovery spirit to the highest level, with disembarks and informative keynotes.

Itinerary

  Punta Arenas

Check-in between 13:00 hs. – 17:00 hs at Magallanes 990, Punta Arenas. At 18:00 hs. we embark and the crew, leaded by the Captain, welcomes the passengers aboard and we and our new travel companions are greeted with a cocktail. Immediately after, the ship takes sail heading towards the end of the world. Through the Estrecho de Magallanes (Strait of Magellan) we will traverse the Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego… This is the beginning of a great adventure.

  Bahía Ainsworth - Islote Tucker

Right at sunrise the sailing continues through Almirantazgo Fjord, until we reach the proximities of Glaciar Marinelli in Bahía Ainsworth, where we take a walk to discover a beaver dam and the marvelous magellanic forest around it. At the beach we will also encounter a colony of elephant seals.

As we resume sailing, we visit Islote Tucker (Tucker islet) and watch magellanic penguins and cormorants from the water’s surface using Zodiac motored boats. Considering April is when penguins migrate, this excursion might be replaced for a visit to Bahía Brookes where we will disembark to take a close walk to the glacier.

Glaciar Pia – Avenida de los Glaciares (Glaciers Avenue)

We sail the main lane of Canal de Beagle to enter Bahía Pia and disembark near the glacier of the same name. Then we begin the excursion towards a site with excellent conditions to admire the chain of mountains where the glacier originates and all of its extension until it finally reaches the sea.

After this incredible experience we continue the excursion through the northeast branch of the Canal de Beagle and the majestic view of Avenida de los Glaciares: Spain, Romanche, Germany, Italy, France and Netherlands.

Cabo de Hornos – Bahía Wulaia

Sailing through Canal de Beagle and Canal Murray to arrive at the Parque Nacional Cabo de Hornos (Cape Horn National Park) where –if weather conditions allow it- we will take ground. Cabo de Hornos is a 425 mts. high and almost vertical headland, this mythical place is known as “The End of the World” and disembarking here is not a right, but a privilege. It was declared Biosphere Reserve by the UNESCO on June 2005.

During the afternoon we disembark in Bahía Wulaia, an historical place once one of the largest colonies of the native civilizations of the region. Furthermore, this place is a visual delight thanks to the beautiful vegetation and geography, and there is a view point we will visit by crossing the magellanic forest covered with lengas, coihues, canelos and many other species.

  Ushuaia

We arrive at Ushuaia, the argentine and most prominent city in Tierra del Fuego and also the southernmost city in the world. We disembark around 8 AM allowing us to visit the city, the national parks and continue our travel through Patagonia.
