This cruise takes the route of the Great Sailors through the Patagonia, visiting Cabo de Hornos, often called ‘the Tempest Cape’ by the local sailors, passing between Isla Hoste and Isla Navarino through Canal de Murray, reminding us the incredible explorations and discoveries of interoceanic routes made by Fernando de Magallanes, Francis Drake and Fitz Roy.

A unique sight, among glaciers and unexplored mountains at the southmost region in the planet, and crossing from Punta Arenas to Ushuaia through the mythical Canal de Beagle.

Itinerary

Ushuaia

Check-in between 9:00 hs. and 16:00 hs. at San Martín 425, Ushuaia. Between 18:00 hs. and 19:00 hs., we board the Cruise to be greeted by the Captain and his crew. A cocktail is offered to us and our new fellow passengers for the trip.
Soon after, the ship sets sail heading to “The End of The World”, crossing Canal de Beagle, to traverse the Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego… This is the beginning of a great adventure.

Cabo de Hornos – Bahía Walaia

Sailing through Canal de Beagle and Canal Murray to arrive at the Parque Nacional Cabo de Hornos (Cape Horn National Park) where –if weather conditions allow it- we will take land. Cabo de Hornos is a 425 mts. high and almost vertical headland, this mythical place is known as “The End of The World” and disembarking here is not a right, but a privilege. It was declared Biosphere Reserve by the UNESCO on June 2005.

During the afternoon we disembark in Bahía Wulaia, an historical place once one of the largest colonies of the native civilizations of the region. Furthermore, this place is a visual delight thanks to the beautiful vegetation and geography, and there is a view point we will visit by crossing the magellanic forest covered with lengas, coihues, canelos and many other species.

	Glaciar Gunther Pluschow
By the afternoon Gunther Pluschow glacier awaits us with its bold beauty. Its name honors the german pioneer pilot Gunther Pluschow who reached Punta Arenas with his plane “Feuerland” in 1928. Later on we sail the Chico Sound, where we are taken on Zodiac boats to appreciate the majestic Piloto and Nena glaciers right from the sea’s surface.

Isla Magdalena – Punta Arenas

At first sunlight we disembark in Isla Magdalena, home of a huge colony of magellanic penguins with over 120.000 members which we will be able to appreciate during our walk to the lighthouse guiding ships as they cross the Estrecho de Magallanes. Considering that penguins’ migration occurs in April, this excursion might be replaced with a disembarking in Isla Marta to visit a large colony of sea lions.
When the tour is over we head back to Punta Arenas, taking land around noon.
